To celebrate spring, Jagannatha is dressed in bright red hues from head to toe. This is the Chacheri Besha.

Rituals of Basant Panchami


Basant Panchami Rituals in Shrimandir :
Today's Tithi is Magha Shukla Panchami and Special rituals will be conducted inside Sri mandir for the celebration of Basant Panchami. It should be noted that the Colour Sprinkling Play of Mahaprabhu will begin today.Today after completion of Madhyanna Dhupa,Mailam(changing of cloths) will be conducted.
After that Sarbanga Chandanlagi will be done by Pujapanda,Pati Mohapatra and Mudirasta. For Chacheri Besha,Sridebi and Bhudebi will be taken to the hall of Dakhina Ghara. After the Chacheri Besha of Chaturdha Murti ,the Chacheri Besha of Dolagobinda , Bhudebi and Shridebi will be done.Then they will be brought to the Ratnasinghasana.There Karpoora Lagi will be done to mark the completion of Besha.After that Pujapanda,Pati Mohapatra and Mudirasta conduct Fagu Lagi(application of colours) and then Dolagobinda Bhudebi Sridebi are taken for Jatra.At the Jaya Bijaya Dwara,again Fagu Lagi is done along with Bandapana. After that they are taken in the bimana to the Jagannath Ballav Math.There Fagu Lagi, Alata Chamara and Bandapana will be completed.Then they will be taken to Benta Pokhari(Benta Pond) .There Bhitaraccha Mohapatra will touch the Bow and arrows to the deities and Dala Behera or Lenka Sevak will aim at five out of the six coconuts kept there  as the hunting ritual of lord and bring an untouched one along with him.After that the deities return to Srimandir
After Sandhya Dhupa Panji Puja is done near Saraswati present inside the Bhubaneswari Temple inside Shrimandir.Then Beherana Karana breaks 22 coconuts and other rituals commence normally.
With this rituals the Ratha wood Puja is done for upcoming Ratha Yatra 2018 .
