Morning Attire of Lord Jagannath

Rosa Homa, Mailam & Bhesha:

 Mailam(Changing of Clothes) 

The following Sevayats are required for this ritual: Pushpalaka, Changada Mekapa, Akhanda Mekapa, Dhoba, Suarabadu, The Changada Mekap brings the fresh clothes (patta vastra or tusser silk cloth) and ornaments for the day from the Bhandara ghara, and the Pushpalakas dress Bada Thakura Balabhadra Mahaprabhu, Devi Subhadra, Shri Jagannatha Mahaprabhu,Chakraraj Shri Sudarshana, Madhava, Sridevi, and Bhudevi. After the ritual is over, the Suara Badu cleans the area with the water and sweep it.

(Here the Abakasha dress i.e the Tadapa uttariya is put off and the there are dressed in the Patta Vastra and flower ornaments and Flower garlands)

Sahanamela(Public Darshan from Sanctum)

(Note : Though this is not a part of the rituals, about one hour is spent to facilitate pilgrims to go up to “Ratnasinghasan” or inner sanctums to have a Darshan, without paying fees for it. On certain festive days, Sahanamela is held after “Sandhya dhoopa” (Evening Puja or Sandhya Alati in the month of Kartik) and after Sakala dhoopa (in the month of Pausha). Some times this Darshan is not allowed for some special rituals of the deities.If by mistake, anyone (including the Temple Sevakas other than the Palia Pushpalakas and the Puja Panda) touches the Deities or if spit, vomit, blood, urine or stool is found anywhere inside the temple compound, then the Puja Pandas perform the Mahasnana to the Deities.and the temple room is thoroughly washed up to the Jaya Vijaya Dwara.)

Mailam(changing of cloths) 

After Sahanamela the deities are again dressed up which can be witnessed from a little distance i.e."Bhitara Katha" and is accompanied by the offering of sandalwood paste and the ritual invocation (“Manima! Manima!”). At this time, Deities are also adorned with gold and precious stones to suit different festive occasions and season.This Bhesha is called Sakala Dhoopa Bhesha.

Even they wear different colors of clothes according to the days:
On Monday: Dhala Chitta(White cloth with black dots on it)
On Tuesday: Barapatia(Strips of 5-7 colours)
On Wednesday: Green Patta Vastra
On Thursday: Yellow Patta Vastra
On Friday: White Patta Vastra
On Saturday: Black Patta Vastra
On Sunday: Red Patta Vastra
During summer they even wear cotton clothes and even on snan mandap its called Boirani and during winters they wear their winter
clothes which are called Ghoda lagi, In that only face, is visible, everyday at night the wear silken cloth called Khandua Patta in which the lines from their favorite song Gita Govindam is woven.

Rosa Homa
During the Abakasha Ritual of Shri Jews this Rosa Homa is done in the sacred kitchen.This ritual takes place daily in the kitchen near the clay stoves. Before the puja starts, the Dhopakhalia removes the ashes of the previous day’s cooking and cleans the kitchen with water. Generally, the Deula Purohita does the Rosha Homa, but the Puja Panda can also do it. This is a fire sacrifice that is done to start the daily cooking for the deities. The priest offers twelve ahutis in the homa.When the homa is completed, the cooks(suars and mahasuaras) pray Lakshmi Devi and Ganesha for a better taste of the food and the removal of obstacles to service.And the took the fire from the fire Sacrifice to light the clay stoves.
